Sometimes in our daily living we hit what I call ‘Speed Humps”.

These are the times when the world seems to be caving in around us, when we have received some bad news or know we are going to be the bearer of bad news, when life seems to be so confusing and we feel all alone.

Well, I have some good news for you. Whatever you are experiencing, you are not alone!
King Solomon was, the Old Testament says, one of the wisest Kings to rule the earth. A young man when he inherited the throne of his father David, he realised that he had no hope of ruling the vast empire left in his care and asked God to give him wisdom in dealing with the people of his nation. It was he who said, “There is nothing new under the sun.” We could take this to mean that all the problems of this world are not unique to you the individual, they have happened to others beforehand. They might be new to you, but not to some other people who live on this earth.

I read of a man who was known as a ‘martyr’ for his faith and who was sent to a prison to die after enduring the physical and mental torture of a communist prison. He shared how, on his death bed (and God miraculously restored him so that he did not die, but lived to tell this tale), he was too weak to get on his knees to pray for God’s help and too ill to pray out loud. So he held out his hand from his pallet on the floor asking Jesus to take and hold it, and as He did so, to listen to the thoughts of his dying mind and heart. He states that an overwhelming peace flooded his body and later he shared with other prisoners who had gathered around him to witness his death of what had happened. It was not long before others who did die because of torture and ill health were found to have done so with a hand outstretched.

Sometimes in our hour of need, we don’t know how to express to God what we feel but we are encouraged to try! Even so, it is hard and all we are aware of is that we need help; we know we feel heavy, dark and oppressed. Sometimes we don’t know why we feel this way but one thing is for sure, HE THE BURDEN BEARER is willing, if you ask Him, to take your hand and help you through what ever you are enduring.
